Volunteer Corner

Volunteer Corner Update

We are thrilled to announce that the Pierce County AIDS foundation will be partnering with Life Long AIDS Alliance and the Chicken Soup Brigade to distribute specially designed nutritional food to a select number of our clients.

We need a team of five or six dedicated volunteers to make this happen. The volunteers need to have the ability to lift groceries supplies and stand for a long period of time. Most importantly –volunteers for the food distribution need to be available Every Monday afternoon from 11am-3:30pm.

Let Beth Know ASAP (food distribution begins January 14th) if you are available for this project. Beth@piercecountyAIDS.org or 253-383-2565 ex 211

Thank you and Happy Holidays

December 2007 - January 2008

As I look at the challenges and success of 2007, I can’t help but feel deep gratitude for the continued efforts of the Pierce County AIDS Foundation volunteers. Amazing things were accomplished this year; we got closer to staffing every Dinning Out for Life Ambassador shift than we ever have before. We had dedicated volunteer teams for every aspect of the 2007 Pierce County AIDS Walk. We broke our hours goal logging over 6,200 volunteer hours for the year so far.  That’s more than a 50% increase over 2006.

But there are always steps to take, needs to meet and ways for this program to grow.

Upcoming Volunteer Needs

We are working on developing a Client chore/errands team of volunteers to assist in the housekeeping needs of clients who are unable to complete these tasks alone. People who can dedicate a significant amount of time, have their own transportation are able to make a six month commitment, should call Beth to talk about working on this project.

In the month of January we will be mailing out our bi-annual newsletter, bulk mailing support is needed in the last two weeks of January.

February will bring the beginning of Dine Out Season- publicity teams are needed to Poster neighborhoods, and it’s never to early to start telling your friends and family to eat out April 24th.

If you are interested in helping with any of these projects call Beth at 253-383-2565

We will not be holding volunteer hours the Week of Dec 24th- Dec 28th, as the PCAF office will be running on reduced staff. We will return to a regular schedule Tuesday Jan 2nd- after observance of New Years Day.

 Kudos:

Kudos to Jessica Ruzic, Kasey Eck, Shannon Kane, Jessica Taylor and Lane Wilson for their help and support with the World AIDS Day event at the Tacoma Art Museum November 30th. No matter how often I say it, it’s still true- We couldn’t have done it without you.

Kudos to Jenna Daniels for serving as the volunteer docent at the Tacoma Art Museum for World AIDS Day – December 1st.

Kudos to the APEX (AIDS Peer Education X-change) group at Gig Harbor High School for their wonderful World AIDS Day assembly and Condom Fashion

The success of the Pierce County AIDS Foundation hinges on the energy and determination of our volunteers. PCAF volunteers come from all walks of life and complete a variety of necessary tasks. There are volunteers who have logged over ten hours a week for over ten years, and volunteers who join us after business hours two or three times a year to help us prepare for special events, like the AIDS Walk. From cooking with the housing staff, to filing records for the administrative team, our volunteers keep PCAF running smoothly.

Many people say they never begin volunteering because they are never asked. We are asking; we ask that you share your time, your enthusiasm, and your passion with us. Please join our team of Community Corp. Volunteers. Working side by side with staff, many volunteers find their ideal service opportunity at our organization. We will do our best to match your availability and interest with our immediate volunteer needs.

Call Beth at 383-2565ex. 211 or send her an email at beth@piercecountyAIDS.org to find out how you take in active role in PCAF’s mission, help us build communities to save lives.
